Many new entrants look at the TPU, TPE and TPV thermoplastic elastomers three materials, there is some doubt, what is this, what are the same and different?
TPU, TPE and TPV are all thermoplastic elastomers with different properties and functions, but because of their different composition and structure, they have their own characteristics and advantages and disadvantages. Here is a brief introduction for you.
1/ three names of TPU, TPE and TPV:
TPU, also called polyurethane, has two kinds of polyester and polyether.
TPE is made from SEBS/SBS+PP+ naphthenic oil + calcium carbonate + additives. It is also called environment-friendly soft plastics in the industry.
TPV is an elastomer based on EPDM, which is dynamically vulcanized.
2/ TPU, TPE and TPV three performance comparison:
1. Transparency, TPU is better than TPE, TPE is better than TPV, TPV in the market has not yet appeared transparent, but it is said that foreign companies have developed this kind of products;
2. Weatherability, TPV is better than TPE, TPE is better than TPU.
3. The specific gravity and the specific gravity of TPE vary greatly from 0.89 to 1.3, TPV is about 0.98, TPU is between 1.0 and 1.4 (reference: the specific gravity of water is 1);
4. Wear resistance, TPU is better than TPV, TPV is better than TPE, there are high wear-resistant TPE, but still a little gap with TPU;
5, oil resistance, TPU (good) is better than TPV (medium), TPE is not resistant to oi
6, acid and alkaline (weak acid and weak base), TPV is better than TPE, TPU is not acid and alkali resistant.
7. Temperature resistance, TPE is - 60 degrees Celsius to 90 degrees Celsius, TPV is - 60 degrees Celsius to 130 degrees Celsius, TPU is - 60 degrees Celsius to 80 degrees Celsius.
